Mommy Interview: Stylist Jenn Falik’s Baby Fashion Tips

Jenn Falik shows off her baby bump and shares her maternity styling tips on her blog

Jenn Falik is a blogger, style & beauty expert, and mommy who’s shared her tips on shows like The View, The Today Show, Rachael Ray, E! News, and Tyra Banks. And now, with new baby Alexa (see our adorable Baby Picture post on her!) in her life, there’s never a dull moment! Here, she dishes about Alexa’s surprise birth, the “pink princess epidemic,” and why everyone should have The Nuddle.

What was the most surprising thing about having Alexa?

The most surprising thing was having her on January 7th! I am a perennial planner, and when this little lady decided to show up five weeks early, she definitely taught me a lesson: When it comes to kids, you can never be prepared!

When you first found out you were having a girl, were you excited that you could style her and shop for her since you’re such a fashion lover?

At first, I actually kind of wanted a boy to balance out my girly life working in fashion and beauty. When I found out I was having a girl, at first I was a little nervous, remembering how mischievous I was growing up. But it didn’t take me long to realize that a girl was perfect for me because of all the fun baby fashion and baby beauty products out there I could finally have an excuse to play with! And now that she’s here, I realize that I was 100% meant to have a girl.

What are your favorite tips for styling a baby girl?

1. Coziness is key. Especially since you are going to be spending so much time snuggling her, it’s nice to have something super-soft to nuzzle.
2. Don’t ignore the unisex, or even the boys’, fashions out there. If you are looking to avoid the prevalent pink princess epidemic, there are some really gorgeous options, especially if you like chocolate brown and orange as much as I do.
3. Stock up on the baby socks that look like shoes. They are the most adorable way to complete any outfit. I am a huge fan of Trumpettes.
What are your favorite gift ideas for new moms?

Overall, think of something a new mom will actually use, but in a luxe version she may not normally treat herself to. Here are a few ideas:
1. The Nuddle, a super cozy blanket. If you really want to get in a new mom’s good graces, send one for mom and one for baby.
2. aden & anais swaddle blankets: so chic.
3. A luxe, super gentle hairbrush for the baby, like Mason Pearson.
What upcoming projects do you have in the works?

Right now, I am spending a lot of time working on my blog, and will definitely be back on TV soon sharing beauty and fashion finds. And who knows, maybe I’ll throw some baby style segments into the mix. I am also getting ready to shoot more episodes of my show on MSN: “Beauty BFF,” and working on a concept for a book.

Thanks so much, Jenn!
